“To promote the restoration of our beaches, dunes, and salt marsh, and the protection of them from further erosion in order to preserve the natural beauty of our shoreline and historic town, districts, and boardwalk; to promote a balance of public access to the beaches and the conservation of their natural habitat; to ensure the long term stabilization of our beaches so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.”
*** Goal for the December and succeeding meetings: “Bring a Friend to the Meeting”
November meeting minutes - Approved Unanimous
Treasurer’s Report: No formal treasurer’s report but we had $2730.07 in our account last month.
General Discussion:
It was noted that there will be a Special Town Meeting on 2/9/15.
SJ mentions that a Sea Level Rise report was due.
Most of the rest of the meeting was a discussion of Bill Burbank’s proposal for a petition to fund beachfront restoration.
BBu TheSection 111 study now includes the brickyard and houses along the beachfront.
BBu proposes a petition to tell the selectmen to warrant a capital exclusion to fix the beach. That would cost taxpayers about $400, but only once.
SJ Notes that there are already slated $1.5 million dollar road fixing measures for the next 4 years. There will be a new public safety proposal on the May Town Meeting ballot. Further, it would probably be better to wait till the May Town Meeting. As a special Town Meeting would cost the town $8,000-$10,000 for a one issue meeting.
BBu the CPC $1,000,000 request has to be approved at a special Town Meeting. Bill fells that Sandwich Community TV would be supportive of a Ballot initiative.
BBu that the recently located Brickyard will not hold up the process. There will just be a marker where it was. Jarvisville Historic District is under extreme threat.
SJ mentions that an emergency beach repair decision is expected in about 10 days.
BBu “Our goal should be our national historic artifacts and to do that we need to replenish the beaches and dunes.
BBu mentions that:
1.   There are homeowners who are hardening their property’s edges. This works against the marsh.
2.    If the marsh constantly floods the plants will die turning it into a mud flat.
3.   The Harbor Street armament acts as a wall.
4.   Boardwalk Lane, the houses should be removed and the street should be replaced with a drivable boardwalk.
Bill Burbank will run his petition himself separate from TSB.
Meeting Ends:  8:15 PM
Next Meeting: Set for 1/12/15
