natural habitat; to ensure the longterm stabilization of our beaches so they can be enjoyed for
generations to come.”

Motion to approve the minutes from last week:
 Made by Darrell
 Seconded and Approved

Review of Take Back Our Sand Event:
 Humongous Success
 Breakdown of our costs:
 $450.00 for the buses
 $750.00 for T-shirts
 $200.00 Tip for the waitresses
 $500.00 for Advertisements
 Donations

Everyone had fun, and is was a great event for our kids.
$4161.42 still left in our account and all bills have been paid.

Beach Management and Boardwalk:
Doug Lapp may start a plank program
Damaged boards will be removed.  Boards were not meant to be in perpetuity.
We need to replace a lot of boards
Town is waiting for federal funds assessed due to damage during Hurricane Sandy, NEMO and
the following N'easter.
The sand put in the two breeches near Town Neck are wearing away.  People can walk over it

Old Business:
 Website Update
We want to add pictures of our Take Back the Sand Event.  Some of these pictures were
posted to Facebook.
Beach Vision Picture can be sold on our website for $18.00 each
or we could give prints to people who donate a lot of money.
We will sell these prints at Sandwich Fest.
We want to work with the town on a Beach Supervisor position in our town or we could
consider hiring a Coastal Resource Manager

Guest Speaker Greg Sarno on Beach Recovery technology
Greg represents a company called Beach Recovery.
They are located around the world and have direct access to scientists and engineers.
Thru venture agreements they contract professionals, geologists, and political strategists.
They are currently in the process of going public.
 30 employees and/or partnerships.
 Natural beach building process
 Other erosion techniques
Dams – creates lots of sediment behind the DAM and that generates higher
temperatures.
Groins appear to work but the sand disappears anyway.
Sea Walls have not been a successful nourishment project to date.  The wave action will
eventually tear them down.
How do we retain our sand on the beach?
Tubes collect sand by dispersing the waves and creating a Vortex between the tubes.
The Vortex, swerling of water in circles around the tubes, captures the sand and traps it
near shore, depositing it around the tubes.
Sand continues to collect that the beach is re-built to what it was decades before in a
matter of months.
The cost for the project our size would run between .5 million to 10 million depending
on what we wanted to do.
His company would link up with local groups for permitting.
He showed us many pictures of completed projects that were impressive.

Election of TSB officers:
All existing officers were re-elected for their existing positions of president, vice-present, clerk
and treasurer.
There was unanimous agreement to this arrangement.
All candidates accepted the position – Irene Davis, Darrell Davis, Laura Wing and Peter
Lemire.

TSB Business:
 SandwichFest
 29th of June
 We have purchased a booth
We will sell prints of our vision for the beach and t-shirts
Volunteers are the Sneider's, Pat McNeil, Darrell Davis, Paul
 4th of July Parade
We will get a truck and simply decorate with Take Back Our Sand Theme.
Take Back Our Sand t-shirts should be worn.
We need volunteers to ride on the truck or walk behind passing out brochures and
information sheets.
 July 5th beach cleanup
We need a presence at this clean-up.
We need volunteers to help clean up the beach and we will provide gloves and bags
Our t-shirts are currently done by Sharon Sneiders' niece who lives outside of town.
We really should have someone in Sandwich to the t-shirts to help promote the chamber
of commerce.
A vote was taken to switch the vendor for our t-shirts and a new vendor won.
Sharon did not want to manage the t-shirts from a new vendor so Irene took in on herself
to take care of the t-shirts.
We need another volunteer to manage the t-shirts.
Laura Wing asked for volunteers to help her put together a proposal for beach replenishment to
submit to the Community Preservation Committee for funding.  (CPC)
There is money available in the CPC budget for new projects.
They will consider a beach replenishment project appropriate for their funding.
Deb Davies and Dianne Tatersall volunteered.

Closing Comments:
We need to reach out for help to people that have influence and authority such as our State
Senate committee and Mark Forest.  How can we best achieve our goals of beach replenishment.

Action Items:
Volunteer needed to manage the t_shirt sales.
We need to find an advocate for our beaches and look into hiring a Coastal Resource
manager or beach supervisor.
Irene to approach a bank for financial support of our group.
Ralph will talk to us about support from his bank – the Cooperative Bank
Someone to request permission from the selectmen to have us help maintain the
boardwalk – either sell boards or raise funds in some other way.
Someone to follow up on improving the parking lot at the beach
 Website updates:
 Add the meeting agenda
 Add the meeting minutes
Add the monthly Woods Hole group updates to the town.
Contact the State Office of Coastal Management.
Contact Jim Mahala of the Department of Environment Protection for information.  He
is a coastal geologist.
Contact Rebecca Haney of the Coastal Zone Management (CZM).
Contact Bruce Tarr who is very close to the Plum Island replenishment projects.

Next Meeting July 8th at the Chew Restaurant from 6:30 to 8:30.
Motion made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.
Corrections, comments and fill-ins are welcome
